Job Title: Learning Technologist

Salary: Upto £50k basic

Working hours: 37.5 per week, flexible

The Client:

Our client are committed to helping close the tech and digital productivity gap in the West Midlands and across England, responding to local and regional skills needs and increasing the social mobility of the local population through coaching and training. Last year they received Ofsted Outstanding for  their quality of education and learning programmes and are proud of their focus on delivering genuinely work-based learning, underpinned by academic rigour.

They have an exciting opportunity for a Learning Technologist to join their organisation and design, develop, launch and maintain new Apprenticeship programmes on their own virtual learning environment (Totara). There may also be future opportunities to design, develop, launch and maintain learning programmes upon other bespoke Virtual Learning Environments.

Core Responsibilities:

1.Ensure the Totara/Mahara/etc virtual learning environment (VLE) is fully implemented and utilised to help learners and employers have an excellent learning journey.  Enable their staff to effectively manage and track learner progress through the VLE.  Run the Staff VLE.

2.In collaboration with Subject Matter Experts, design, develop, launch and maintain their Apprenticeship programmes and other courses on the VLE as needed, including (but not limited to) the following Apprenticeship programmes and Skills Bootcamps:

a.Digital Technology Solutions Professional Level 6 (Integrated Degree)

b.Digital Marketer Level 6 (Integrated Degree)

c.Network Engineer Level 4

d.Multichannel Marketer Level 3

e.Content Creator Level 3

f.Cyber Security Technologist Level 4 (Risk Analyst only)

g.Data Analyst Level 4

h.IT Technical Salesperson Level 3

i.Tech/Cyber Skills Bootcamp

j.Developer Skills Bootcamp

k.Data/AI Skills Bootcamp

l.Digital/MArketing Skills Bootcamp

Also support HR to design, develop, launch and maintain Staff Development programmes on the Staff VLE.

3.Support other employer organisations looking for an overall talent experience solution, accessing Government funding for training solutions (Apprenticeships and Skills Bootcamps) 

4.Support organisations looking for commercial solutions to corporate knowledge capture, performance management, workforce engagement and formal learning development via a bespoke-branded Virtual Learning Environment platform with bespoke content. Supporting with the:

a.System configuration and management

b.Training and consultancy

c.E-learning content design & development 

d.Continuous development and improvement of branded virtual learning environments  

Ideal Candidate:


●Must align with their curriculum intent and strategy: Genuinely work based learning underpinned by academic rigour

●Is educated to degree level or equivalent

●Has a passion for developing local and regional skills 

●Has strong project management and organisation skills

●Is able to deliver against their values and communicate with individuals from various backgrounds and in a variety of different roles

●Achieves a minimum level 2 or higher in an English initial assessment undertaken as part of the recruitment process 


●Has experience of successfully designing learning programmes

●Has experience utilising a virtual learning environment

●Has a background in the apprenticeship or further education sector 


●Working from home/hybrid and flexible working
